Who should do this course?
The course is designed for people who use agricultural and/or veterinary chemicals (eg herbicides, fungicides, insecticides and animal health products) in their workplace or at home, but who are not required to obtain the Level 3 Chemical Accreditation (check the Note below to see if you need Chemical Accreditation). It is designed for people who do not use large quantities of chemicals and who do not use the more dangerous chemicals and as a WHS course it is not accredited. A Certificate of Completion is issued on successful completion.
The course is well suited to landscapers, gardeners, greenkeepers, bushcare workers, tree loppers, local council workers, and primary producers who do not need the Level 3 Chemical Accreditation.

What does the course cover?
The course covers the following topics:
- Integrated Pest Management (IPM)
- Reading & understanding chemical labels & Safety Data Sheets (SDS)
- Safe transport, storage and handling
- Personal Safety
- Keeping records of chemical use
- Chemical use and the law
- Protecting the environment
- Safe disposal of chemical waste
- What to do in emergencies
- Information on calibrating application equipment is available as an optional extra. It is available at no extra cost, and is not assessed
The Level 3 Chemical Accreditation is required for:
- Some state governments require Chemical Accreditation in some situations to purchase and/or use certain types of chemicals.
- Primary producers involved in quality assurance programs (eg Freshcare, LPA, NFAS, etc).
How is the course presented?
The course can be completed online, or via a group in-house presentation.
Online: The online course consists of a set of video presentations. Assessments include online assessments and practical assessment. Although the course is completed online, at times that suit you, we do not abandon you – help is available if needed by calling FREEcall 1800 991 985.
In-house: Presentations may be arranged for groups where one of our expert trainers will present the course and provide assessments, if requested to. Assessments include written and practical assessment. The workshop can be customised to suit your needs.There will be an opportunity to complete the assessments at the workshop; however they can be completed after the workshop if you feel you need more time to absorb the information provided during the workshop.
Online assessments are either marked immediately, or marked by a presenter within 5 working days, and where relevant feedback is provided on your answers. On completion of the assessments we will provide a Certificate of Completion. Our helpful facilitators are available to assist anyone with questions or those who do not pass the assessments at their first attempt.

You must be able to read information on chemical labels, use a calculator for basic calculations, and be able to solve problems and fill in workplace forms.
You do not need prior knowledge, skills and experience using chemicals to successfully undertake this course. However, if you already have experience it will be an advantage, and you may be able to progress through the course quicker.
