Smith & Georg Online is primarily an internet-based program, so some basic computer skills and tools and access to the internet are required to use it. Fortunately, if you’ve gotten this far you are well on your way to getting the most out of Smith and Georg Online. However there are a few things which we encourage participants to check to ensure they have the best experience. Please note that all of the software listed here is free – you shouldn’t have to pay for any software to complete the course.
- Bandwidth (internet speed)
Poor bandwidth will not prevent you from completing Online Chemical Accreditation, however you will have to wait longer for a presentation to download before you can view it.
Some firewalls may block parts of Online Chemical Accreditation. If you have trouble viewing presentations or downloading files, particularly if you’re using a company computer, you may need to consult whoever manages your computer.
- Update your internet browser
This is the software that sits between the internet and your computer screen. If you are reading this then you are already using an internet browser. There are a few different brands of browser, the most common of which are: Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome. To get the most out of this site we recommend that you find out which browser you currently have, and then update your browser to the latest version. This is always good practice because the latest versions have more features, and are faster and more secure.
- Get Adobe Flash Player
Adobe Flash Player is a software that works with your browser to bring video, audio and other interactive elements to the web. We use Flash for our online presentations and videos, so it is essential to successful completion of this course. Even if you already have Flash installed, we recommend that you get the latest version of Adobe Flash Player. Please note that is it NOT necessary or recommended to install ‘Google Toolbar’ with Adobe Flash Player.
- Get Adobe Reader
Adoble Reader is a software which allows you to view PDF files. We occasionally use this format to provide resources such as spray records because you can easily view the files for free. We recommend that you get the latest version of Adobe Reader. Please note that is it NOT necessary or recommended to install ‘Google Toolbar’ with Adobe Reader.
- iPad Users
The Smith & Georg online courses use Adobe Flash video files for video presentations. The iPad does not natively support Flash. iPad users have two options:
- Download one of the web browsers that support Flash from the Apple AppStore. Puffin is one such browser and is free. Any software downloaded is done so at the user’s own risk.
- Use a different device (laptop, desktop computer) to complete the course
- Smart Phone UsersThe Smith & Georg online courses have not been optimised for use on Smart Phones. A laptop or desktop computer is recommended.
Smith & Georg also provide face-to-face Chemical Accreditation courses in South Australia. You can find out more about these courses and their dates on our website. We also provide in-house courses for groups.
Alternatively, you could complete Chemical Accreditation via Home Study. Home Study students receive a manual via post which they can complete in their own time and mail back when they have finished. Please contact us if you are interested in the Home Study option.
